Bill Warner, 44, of Wimauma, Fla., was the first rider to reach 300mph on a conventional motorcycle, and he held the world land speed record for the class at 311mph, but on Sunday, July 14, 2013, something went horribly wrong for Bill Warner as his methanol-fueled, turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa veered off the runway at the former Loring Air Force Base in northern Maine and crashed at more than 285mph. "No one will touch Bill's achievements or be the type of racer he was. He was a personal friend, and the land-racing community is less for his loss,", Tim Kelly, race director of the Loring Timing Assn, said. Warner’s neighbors said, "He was passionate about racing. He loved his motorcycles and he worked on them out here at his home. He also loved his other job, working on his fish farm." Warner previously hit 311 mph on the same course in 2011, using 1.5 miles of pavement. That's considered to be the world land speed record for a conventional motorcycle.
