That's all Steve wanted as his epitaph. It's what his mother would say to him when he denied doing something that she knew he did do.
But obits are for the living too, and Steve affected so many lives in positive ways, especially mine, as his wife.
In the 1990's, we'd visit friends and relatives who's children were in their teens and early twenties, and the kids always showed up to talk with Steve. He just drew them. His younger brothers, now in law enforcement, still looked up to him, as they did when they were kids. He was cool. He was funny. He was smart and profound. He'd been in the shit in Viet Nam and gave his brothers advice, when they went into law enforcement, that they still follow today.
He and his friend Chuck Kelley, had "The Forest Park Theater Company" for ten years. They did the tough gritty plays of Mamet , Albi and Shepard. Critics who'd seen "American Buffalo" with Pacino and DeNiro in Canada, said they liked Steve and Chuck's version better.
He worked as a track worker in NY, a school bus driver in Colville, and a CNA. No matter what he did, most all in his care loved him.
People always called us soul mates. Half my soul has been ripped away and replaced with pain and sadness. He came from healthy stock but the Agent Orange he was exposed to in Viet Nam claimed him a chunk at a time. I may find my way in time, but now I just reach out to the half that's out of reach. I'll see you soon my love. Go where you need to go and I'll find you.
